According to the Elite Soccer Report, this year’s preseason Top 5 might be the strongest in years. In fact, it’s possible many of them could spend time at No. 1 this season. The sheer volume of NCAA Division I talent combined with a highly competitive schedule allows Santa Margarita to start in the top spot.
Santa Margarita, a former NEPS team, sits at #1 in the pre-season national rankings, while Plano West and St. Thomas Aquinas both are in the Top 5 at #2 and #5 respectively.
Other teams in the National Elite Prep Showcase field this year that have gained respect in the National Rankings are #7 Marcus, #8 Ursuline, #10 Coppell, #21 Flower Mound, #28 Kingwood, #49 Nolan Catholic, and #50 McKinney Boyd.
Over the past couple weeks some NEPS teams have made a jump, where 4 of the Top 5 teams in the nation are competing in the national showcase hosted by Nolan Catholic and Southlake Carroll beginning on January 10th, 2013.
Plano West is the new #1 team in the country with St. Thomas Aquinas right behind them at #2 and Marcus and Carroll are #4 and #5.
The field this year is one of the strongest yet and always figures in to determining the nations #1 team at the end of the winter season.
Additional movement in the Top 25 saw #6 Coppell, #13 Flower Mound, and #22 Kingwood change positions. Ursuline moved to #26 while McKinney Boyd moved up to #45 and Grapevine was slotted into the #46 spot.
Facilities used throughout the metroplex are Doskocil Stadium at Nolan Catholic High School, the Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium on the campus of TCU, Gateway Park Turf Fields in Fort Worth, and Southlake Carroll's, Dragon Stadium.
