St. Thomas Aquinas, Douglas set for Showdown

ESR No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and No. 10 Douglas (Parkland, Fla.) comfortably won regional quarterfinal matches Wednesday to set up a girls’ soccer regional semifinal clash between the teams ranked 1-2 in the state.

Douglas (22-0) powered past Western 5-0 with Brianna Raff and Alexis Wilson each scored two goals. Meanwhile, Aquinas (21-1-1) handled Taravella 4-0. 

Aquinas has not lost to a Florida team since the 2010 playoffs. 

The Douglas-Aquinas match will take place Saturday at Aquinas. The winner advances to the regional final, which serves as the state quarterfinals. The loser will be finished for the 2012-13 season.
